Whistler
Whistler Valley is located around the pass between the Green and Cheakamus rivers north of Vancouver and is flanked by glaciated mountains on both sides. Long before the arrival of Europeans the region was the main trading route of the Squamish and Lil’wat First Nations. The completion of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway in 1914 reduced the travel time from Vancouver, and the region gained a reputation as a popular vacation destination.
The natural beauty of the region and the welcoming atmosphere have grown Whistler into a world class destination. Originally a destination for lakeside lodges, Whistler is now built around a pedestrian-only walkway. Whistler Village has all you need within walking distance during both summer and winter.
Host of the 2010 Winter Olympics there are plenty of winter skiing and snow activities available to guests. Summertime in the mountains is also a unique experience. There are activities suited to both active or relaxed guests in both seasons.
The record-breaking PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola connects the pedestrian village and the two spectacular mountains. The 11 minute ride spans 4.4km between the mountains and is up to 436m above the valley floor. This provides great access for skiing in winter and amazing views year round.
Whistler also hosts a non-stop lineup of events including free outdoor concerts, festivals, live music, markets and lively street entertainment. Whether you are here to relax, explore or mix with the locals, Whistler has something for everyone.
