This taster tour of Japan includes such a great variety of experiences that it is bound to appeal to people with a wide range of interests. It’s for anyone who loves to explore places not often visited and marvel in the unspoilt beauty of discovering new destinations.
We have detailed the experiences in the day-to-day program below. For a quick overview, we have provided a snapshot of what is included in your program:
On arrival at either Tokyo Narita or Haneda Airport your english speaking guide will greet you and transfer you to your chosen accommodation for the evening. Passengers travelling on Qantas flights from Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane will arrive in the evening, while passengers arriving on Japan Airlines or those connecting via other cities may arrive earlier in the day. If arriving earlier, we can arrange activities for your day or you can explore the city at your own leisure.
In the morning you will be met at your hotel by your local guide who will take you on a tour of the city of Tokyo. The easiest and most authentic way to explore the city is by the very punctual and reliable public transport network. The day long adventure will include places like the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building where you can take in the breathtaking views of the city skyline as well as significant shrines and temples within the city. A visit to Meiji Shrine and its 100,000 trees have an air of tranquility distinct from the surrounding city while later in the day we visit the oldest temple in Tokyo at Asakusa Kannon Temple.
The late afternoon is spent exploring the modern side of Tokyo’s vibrant shopping and entertainment region of the city in Ginza. Even guests who do not enjoy shopping will be amazed at the dazzling lights and variety of stores on offer.
We explore the world heritage region of Nikko on a full day excursion out of the city of Tokyo. The region is most famous for the Toshogu Shrine. This is said to be Japan’s most lavishly decorated shrine and is also the mausoleum of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate. We cross the Shinkyo bridge which was constructed in 1636 and was off limits to the public until the 1970’s before exploring the Tamozawa Imperial Villa.
Tamozawa Imperial Villa is one of the largest remaining wooden buildings in Japan and hosts a mix of Japanese and Western influences. The former summer retreat for the imperial family, the villa was neglected post WW2 and has recently undergone renovations and made open to the public. Our rail journey from Tokyo to Nikko and return provides views of the Japanese countryside before returning to the vibrant city of Tokyo for dinner.

There are many attractions to visit in Tokyo and today is your day to explore whatever takes your fancy. We can assist you in planning your day, whether it be a cruise on Tokyo bay, a stroll through one of the many gardens, a shopping trip for any occasion or admiring some cultural landmarks within the city. Whatever your adventure, we can customise a day full of activities for you to explore on your own. Alternatively, you can take Tokyo as you find it and choose your own adventure wherever the wind may take you.

Mount Fuji is an icon of Japan and on today’s adventure we explore the 5th Mt Fuji Station. After taking in the views (weather dependant) we descend to the spa region of Hakone stopping to visit the Kotokuin Temple with the great Buddha and the Hase Kannon Temple in nearby Kamakura. On arrival in Hakone we cruise on the majestic Lake Ashi where we hope to get another amazing view of this iconic mountain. Later in the day we take the Komagatake Ropeway for a birds eye view of the region.
To make travel a little easier, your heavy luggage will be transported from Tokyo to Kyoto and arrive the following day, meaning you’ll only need an overnight bag for our trip to Hakone.
There is nothing more Japanese than travelling on a high speed bullet train. Today’s journey on the Shinkansen will take us to the former capital of Japan, Kyoto. On arrival you’ll have the afternoon to explore the city on your own terms before enjoying a traditional Japanese Kaiseki dinner were you will observe Maiko dancing in your private dining space.
On a private guided tour you will explore the historic capital of Kyoto on a full day excursion. During the day we visit the flat land Nijo Castle, explore the stunning gold leaf covered Kinkakuji temple and Ryoanju temple with its zen rock gardens. In the afternoon we explore the downtown area, a vibrant part of the city before concluding in the Gion area of Kyoto. This region is Kyoto’s famous geisha district, with hostesses in colourful kimonos sighted.
We allow a day for you to explore the city of Kyoto at your leisure or we can assist you in arranging day trips to the neighbouring regions. Try a visit to a local Sake brewery, try on a Kimono, take a high speed train to Hiroshima or continue to explore Kyoto at your leisure.
On our final day in Japan we start with a guided tour of Nara, the first permanent capital of Japan. Within Nara we visit the Todaiji Temple and Kasuga Grand Shrine before exploring the Namba district in Osaka, a key entertainment district within the city. In the evening we arrange a transfer to Osaka’s Kansai airport for your flights back to Australia. Of course if you want to extend your journey we can add accommodation in Osaka for the night before commencing another one of your Japan adventures.
What’s included and not included in this tour of Japan is pretty clear, we think. We like to keep things simple, so you won’t find page after page of terms and conditions (although we are required to have some to protect both you and us).
For this program, we include 8 nights’ accommodation at the hotels at each destination. If that hotel is not available for whatever reason, we will substitute it for a comparable property. If we say we include an activity in the itinerary above, then we include it. Optional activities or what we suggest you could do in your free time are just that – optional and not included – although we have tried to include as much as possible so you get the best experience possible.
We do not include airfares to and from Japan. If you require airfares, please contact us and one of our partners will be happy to assist you.Click here to get a Personal Quote for this tour!
